Internet2 - PIM Bootstrap Report

"Show PIM Bootstrap"

PIM, or the Protocol Independant Multicasting protocol, computes the reverse path through the network to a multicast source. One of the ways PIM operates is in sparse mode. PIM sparse mode requires the use of a Rendezvous Point, or RP. All of the routers in a PIM domain need to know the address of the RP. One of the ways to learn about the RP is through the bootstrap mechanism.

USC has a great site with PIM information, for those who wish to learn more.
