Internet2 - PIM Bootstrap Report
PIM, or the Protocol Independant Multicasting protocol, computes the reverse path through the network to
a multicast source. One of the ways PIM operates is in sparse mode. PIM sparse mode requires the use of a
Rendezvous Point, or RP. All of the routers in a PIM domain need to know the address of the RP. One of the ways
to learn about the RP is through the bootstrap mechanism.
